Avatar Design

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

Say hi to little jack! I spend so much time customizing my online avatars that I figured it was time for me to create an avatar myself and make her look identical to me. I quickly ramped up on Blender tutorials and learned how to craft hair styles, facial features and customize clothes. I plan to use this avatar in multiple facets of animation for virtual tours, digital mixed reality business cards and customizing a closet of clothes of course!

Features

Character Design on Blender

Starting with a base mesh, I've customized her to adapt my skin tone, used basic shapes to form the facial features, created a custom yoga outfit and sculpted her hair texture into locs.

Ombre Locs for Realism

I stretched, bended and curved cylinders to create my locs and used the shade editor, color ramp node, color dropper, input points, mapping and texture coordinates to customize the locs. Then Ctrl +C, Ctrl+V to go full rasta mode.

Enhancing Facial Features

The face was the trickiest part for me, creating realistic facial features is pure art. I used basic shapes to form the eyeballs, pupils, eyelids, eye brows, lips, teeth and the middle part hairline.

Project Details

In the essence of working smarter not harder, I started this avatar build off with a base mesh to give the general body shape of a character. I took her from alien superstar to human form within the click of a few buttons.

I started with the skin tone, added circles to make eyeballs and pupils, cylinders for eyebrows and another circle to create the base of the hair.

Next, I played around with cylinders to stretch, bend and curve them to create my locs. I used the shade editor to give the ombre effect, used the color ramp node to show more than one color and the color dropper to grab the identical tone from the reference image of myself.

Here she is, full rasta mode! I've maneuvered each loc to look like it is realistically on the scalp and created a middle part hairline.

I made her clothes from X-ray mode by tracing out a tank top and a pair of leggings.

I'm no designer label, but here is the athletic leisure outfit lil jack is wearing. The frames selected fit the shape of the character aligned with the base mesh.

To put the final touches on it, I enhanced her facial features with extra pupils in her eyes, eyelids (trickiest part), glossy upper and lower lips and a row of teeth.

And here she is, everybody say hi to lil jack!

What do you think? Do you think she looks like me?
